Boredom: Your Knight in Shining Armor

How Boredom Saves You!

Do you ever want boredom to stop dancing in the ballroom of your mind?

I do not - and neither should you. Yes, boredom can be a result of dissatisfaction, restlessness, and even mental fatigue. However, it is good for you. I viewed boredom like most others did, as a state of uselessness. But as I uncovered the reasons I got bored and what it did for me, I began hating boredom much less.

When you feel bored, it is nothing but an indication of the monotony in your life and how you must break that monotony. When boredom strikes, it is often to push you in a new direction, telling you to do something about it! You are in control of your boredom and you are also in control of getting rid of that boredom. Therefore boredom is not the end of the road, but an indication that you must take the right turn.

For me, boredom fills my mind with colours and ideas, helping me visualize things. For me, boredom is a resting phase - where I think about how I first got into this place and what I must do to get out. I harness the thoughts I have when I’m BORED and use those thoughts to get me out of my state of BOREDOM.

Next time you get bored, refrain from the usual playing of a video game or repeating your daily activities since this just re-registers your mind to boredom. Now here’s what you have to do:- think about your day, take a pencil and just draw whatever comes to your mind, bake a cake, call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while or just go about tidying your room. Do something which you wouldn’t usually do, but will still give you a feeling of accomplishing something (do something light yet fulfilling).

Now do change your perception of boredom – it isn’t a state of uselessness but an exit from that uselessness. Next time you’re bored, look for the nearest exit and just leave. It really is that simple. So now for me, boredom is the time I cherish most, since the way I define it is, the time in which I get to do anything I want and not the time in which I irritated because I can’t find anything to do.

Give it a try, change your mindset about it and then see how it goes.
